WWE ECW 47

May 1, 2007 – Birmingham, Alabama

Bobby Lashley comes out to start the show. He complains about Vince McMahon taking the title from him when Armando Alejandro Estrada comes out in a wheelchair and neck brace. This is actually a pretty hilarious look for him. He tells Lashley that he’ll get a title rematch as long as he doesn’t touch Umaga, Shane McMahon, or Vince unless he’s physically provoked. He doesn’t mention himself, so Lashley stumbles through the reveal that he’s fair game. Maybe it’s good that they got the title off of him.

CM Punk def. Kevin Thorn
This was one minute of Thorn in control followed by Punk hitting the GTS for the win. The New Breed watched the match from the ramp but didn’t factor into the match. ½*

The ECW Originals are really grossed out that Vince is the ECW champ. It’s pretty lame, but so is Tommy Dreamer cutting the same crying promo everytime he mentions ECW. Then, Extreme Expose do their usual twitchy dance number. After that, Thorn is mad that the New Breed didn’t help him during his match and he quits the group. And hey, remember Snitsky? They’re still showing hype videos for him even though he’s in the squash zone because they have no idea what they want out of him.

Brett Major & Brian Major def. Marcus Cor Von & Matt Striker
The Majors were set up to be jobbers here, but they actually got to shine quite a bit here and then won the match to hammer home the fact that the New Breed is falling apart. Burke berates Striker after the match. *½

Vince McMahon is confronted by the ECW Originals in the ring. Nobody says anything interesting and Vince is starting to slip into senility. He books them in a fatal four way match against one another and the winner will face him next week. I’m fairly certain he’s totally forgotten Sabu’s name.

Rob Van Dam def. Sandman, Sabu, and Tommy Dreamer {Extreme Rules Fatal Four Way Match}
This was chaotic, but not wild. It wasn’t sloppy, nor was it boring, but it also didn’t really come together as anything but a mess of spots. The commentators tried to sell it as so dangerous that the winner couldn’t possibly be 100% when facing McMahon next week, but RVD seemed mostly fine after the match. **
