WWE ECW 46

April 24, 2007 – RBKC, London

CM Punk apologizes for his actions last week and gives a pep talk to the New Breed to get them hyped for their big main event tonight.

Bobby Lashley def. Umaga
This was an inoffensive brawl, though it’s a bad sign when you’ve forgotten the first half of a four minute match by the end of the thing. This ends when Armando Alejandro Estrada attacks Lashley, giving the ECW champ a disqualification win. *

Elijah Burke thinks they may have made a mistake bringing Punk into the fold. The rest of the crew disagrees, siding with Punk.

Snitsky def. Balls Mahoney
This was real squishy. Why set up Mahoney as a legitimate opponent for Snitsky two weeks ago if Snitsky is still in squash mode? ¼*

Rob Van Dam, Sandman, Sabu & Tommy Dreamer def. Elijah Burke, Marcus Cor Von, Kevin Thorn & Matt Striker {Elimination Match}
This was going to be a handicap match, but Burke sidelined Punk before it started so that things could be fair. This was long and boring, and filled with lousy eliminations. For example, MCV got eliminated for dropping Dreamer on the barricade, something that never draws a disqualification ever but did here because this show is bad. The crowd finally woke up at the finish, when Punk turned on Burke (can you call it a face turn when he spent his two weeks as a heel being a snarky babyface?), giving RVD the big win. We didn’t even get any Punk vs. ECW Originals matches out of this stupid fake-out. *½

And now, from bad to worse at Backlash.

April 29, 2007 – Atlanta, Georgia

Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon & Umaga def. Bobby Lashley {ECW Championship Handicap Match}
This angle was mostly built up on Raw, but it had a cup of coffee on ECW and it’s for the ECW title so here it is. The match started out pretty strong, with Lashley dispatching Shane and Umaga but having a hard time getting his hands on Vince. Then the heels took over and we had to believe that Shane could control Lashley for an extended period of time and it fell apart. After what felt like a lifetime of that kind of crap, Vince finally gets in the ring and wins the title after a belt shot from shane and two Superfly Splashes from Umaga. *
