WWE ECW 37

Before I get to this episode’s review, I need to take a look at No Way Out 2007. There was an ECW Championship match on that show, but I had no idea because it was mentioned zero times on ECW. I’m not exaggerating; it was set up on the Smackdown before the PPV, and thus received no air time at all on ECW.

Mr. Kennedy def. Bobby Lashley {ECW Championship Match}
Michael Cole and JBL are on commentary for this match. Cole has no voice. So you have two guys, one who can barely speak, who have nothing to do with the brand represented by the championship on the line calling this match. And holy shit was this match actively bad. The crowd was silent for most of it and then about twelve minutes of basically nothing into it they started turning on the thing. Lashley was on another planet, looking uncomfortable and deciding to stop selling his leg entirely. And then Kennedy was just a snooze. And then after all that, Kennedy hits Lashley with a chair behind the refs back, then Lashley responds in kind and gets disqualified. Maybe I should have just skipped this. ¼*

Rob Van Dam def. Kevin Thorn
This was Thorn standing around and letting RVD do stuff to him, which is the best use of Thorn that I can think of. **½

They’ve added the clips of Snitsky attacking Punk to his video package.

CM Punk def. Johnny Nitro
Punk got a spot in Money in the Bank at WrestleMania with this win. He debuted the Go2Sleep here too. The match was more punchy/kicky than what I was hoping for from these two, but the crowd was hot for Punk, so that helped. **½

Rene Dupree & Sylvan Grenier def. Victor Cabille & Will Flores
The PWG boys (Phoenix Star & Zokre) get squashed in under a minute. It was weird to see them without their masks. Snitsky attacks the jobbers after the match. N/A

Extreme Exposé finally gets to finish their routine. Kelly Kelly is such a spaz and I can’t get enough of how absurd this routine is.

Bobby Lashley def. Mr. Kennedy & Hardcore Holly {ECW Championship Triple Threat Match}
Gotta love a title match in which both challengers got their title shots by failing to get the job done in previous matches. What a joke. In a pre-match promo, Holly mistakenly says they’re fighting for the World Heavyweight Championship. Tazz says that it’s unheard of that Kennedy is getting a second title opportunity in two days, but they just did the exact same thing with Test. Bad build and commentary aside, this was worlds better than the match at the PPV (super low bar), Kennedy taking out Holly and then Lashley pinning Kennedy clean at the end. **¾
