WWE ECW 27

December 16, 2006 – Boston, Massachusetts

Test def. Rob Van Dam
RVD has this insane ability to get good work out of Test. This wasn’t as good as their last singles match, but it had a gnarlier spot than anything that happened in their last match (Test shoving RVD from the top turnbuckle to the floor) and a really nice finishing stretch. Test won with a handful of the ropes. ***

In another example of the December to Dismember PPV starting random feuds rather than ending them, Matt Striker rambles on forever before calling out Balls Mahoney. Then he hits him with a low blow. Meanwhile, Elijah Burke hypes himself and Sylvester Terkay backstage.

CM Punk def. Hardcore Holly
I’m starting to think Tazz might have a developmental disability. He definitely doesn’t know what a pun is. Holly loses what was a perfectly fine match when he won’t stop punching Punk in the corner. This show is lame as hell. Punk makes Holly tap after the fact. What the actual hell? **

Tommy Dreamer def. Daivari
This is the result of Dreamer calling out Great Khali. So now we have Dreamer winning in under a minute despite interference from Khali and Dreamer winning despite being brutally injured. Khali attacks him again after the match. Based on this show’s history I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t end up doing Dreamer vs. Khali. N/A

Bobby Lashley def. Doug Basham & Derrick Neikirk {Handicap Match}
I don’t know the reason but this episode was moved to Saturday night from Tuesday night. To make sure people watched, they had Lashley wrestle two faceless jobbers in the main event. Basham & Neikirk aren’t billed as such, but my OCD won’t allow me to have them listen here as Paul Heyman’s Personal Enforcer #1 & #1. I guess this was meant to be symbolic of Paul Heyman being kicked out of ECW. It was a fine handicap match, with Lashley looking very dominant but not cartoonishly so. **¼
