WWE ECW 25

November 28, 2006 – Buffalo, New York

The WWE Network description spoils elimination chamber by saying that Bobby Lashley is defending his ECW title on this show. He’s not (yet), but he is fighting the current champion Big Show in the main event. Paul Heyman starts the show by explaining the rules of the chamber match on Sunday. This is the fifth time they’ve done this match, so everyone knows the rules and this is a bore. He lists the weapons that will be in the chamber and nobody cares because it’s not like there were disqualifications in the previous chamber matches.

Rob Van Dam def. Sabu
There was only one ridiculous Sabu spot that took me way out of this match, which is a big win especially considering that RVD brings out some of Sabu’s worst impulses. The match was solid, getting the crowd invested here and there. You’d think these guys would be able to sleepwalk through an interesting match, but it was clearly true that Sabu’s reputation for being unable to excel in a normal match was real. **½

Jeff Hardy & Matt Hardy def. Elijah Burke & Sylvester Terkay
They finally promote a second match for the PPV on Sunday, as the Hardys will take on MNM. The Hardys dominated here in a really fun (but short) match that the crowd went wild for. MNM attacks them after the match. **½

CM Punk dco. Test
For no real reason, this ends with Punk losing his cool and beating up Test on the outside until they get counted out. They were going along well enough before the weird finish, and I’m not sure why they felt the need to protect Test here given that he’s said he’s just in the chamber to protect Big Show. **

Bobby Lashley def. Big Show
The whole show went by without talking about the Survivor Series match that half the ECW roster was in two nights earlier and only two matches are being promoted for the PPV on Sunday. This is amateur hour. Lashey won this thing by disqualification after Heyman’s security ran in and attacked him. Then Test comes out and everyone beats up Lashley. Lashley’s comeback was kind of exciting, but the rest of this match was a time-killer. *¾
