WWE ECW 21

October 31, 2006 – Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Paul Heyman announces that Rob Van Dam has chosen the December to Dismember PPV as the place he’ll get his title shot. Then Heyman screws RVD by picking the stipulation for that match, an Elimination Chamber match including four other guys. Lame unless RVD wins that match (he doesn’t).

Sabu def. Kevin Thorn
Winner goes on to the chamber match. This was actually less of a disaster than I expected it to be. Most of what Thorn does is always boring, but Sabu kept it together which is nice. *¾

Sandman is getting interviewed about possibly (but not really possibly) being Umaga’s opponent at Cyber Sunday, but he’s interrupted by a clown (it’s Halloween). He beats up the clown. Jesus.

Daivari def. Shannon Moore
Tazz makes a suicide joke at Joey Styles’ expense before the match. WWE was so goddamn weird around this time. Moore still isn’t getting an entrance. Daivari has the Great Khali with him, but he takes out Moore with absolutely no issues on his own. Khali beats up Moore after the match. I guess this is gonna be a thing for a while. N/A

RVD isn’t stoked about his title match being jammed into an elimination chamber match, but he thinks he’ll do pretty good in there. Hardcore Holly approaches him and notes the irony around “having RVD’s back” in their tag team match tonight. This show is pretty miraculous; on the one hand almost everything on it is bad, and on the other it has me legitimately invested in whether or not it can get Holly over.

Next up is a costume contest with Kelly Kelly, Trinity, and Ariel. Trinity is wearing caution tape, Ariel is wearing her normal lingerie, and Kelly is dressed as CM Punk. Trinity wins because she’s basically naked. Then Mike Knox comes out to yell at Kelly. Punk attacks Knox. In the back, Knox challenges Punk to a match.

Big Show & Test def. Rob Van Dam & Hardcore Holly
This was insanely long given the talent involved, and landed with almost as little fan support as the Test vs. Holly match from the last episode. The last two minutes were getting excited, but then Heyman in a gorilla suit attacks RVD and gives the heels the win. This was bad. *½

This was easily one of the worst episodes of this show yet.
