Matt Hardy def. Finlay {Semifinal Match}
Christian was on commentary for this match. Here’s a rematch I didn’t need, but then they went ahead and had kind of a dope little match that was sneaky good. Finlay slammed Hardy awkwardly on his leg, then worked the thing the entire match. That slowed Hardy down enough for Finlay to hang on. Hardy kind of freaked out and started finisher spamming the Side Effect, but Finlay saw that weakness and regained control by avoiding a moonsault. Then Hardy hit the most desperate Twist of Fate you’ll ever see at 5:14 for the win. Where did that come from?! Hardy’s selling was really good here. ***
Zack Ryder runs into Tommy Dreamer and doesn’t understand what he’s still doing there. What he’s still doing there is you beat him with no stipulation and didn’t even particularly hurt him… so why should he leave? He’s used to losing! Dreamer then finds the logic in the feud and says he’s sick of losing to guys like Ryder, and if he loses tonight he’ll leave ECW forever.
Ezekiel Jackson comes out for a chat. He calls Vladimir Kozlov a weak link in the William Regal chain. Kozlov interrupts and shoves Jackson out of the ring. Is there more to this feud? Kozlov already lost in under two minutes. I guess they could do a match with Regal banned from ringside.
Evan Bourne def. Mike Knox {Semifinal Match}
I would have liked these qualifying matches more had they shaken it up and done all current vs. past wrestlers. I get that they wanted to sneak Ezekiel Jackson vs. Vladimir Kozlov in there, but I really don’t care and they could have executed that fallout a number of other ways. This episode has been rehashing old, boring, dead feuds. I actually can’t remember off the top of my head if Knox vs. Bourne was a feud, but I assume it was because they were two midcarders with nothing to do for a while at the same time. This was pretty much nothing, ending with Bourne hitting a Shooting Star Press for the win at 3:43. Knox never got any better. *¾
Trent Barreta & Caylen Croft interrupt Yoshi Tatsu as he tries to teach Goldust Japanese. They’re excited for Dreamer to lose and for the dead weight to leave ECW, and think Goldust and Tatsu to should follow.
Zack Ryder def. Tommy Dreamer
I’m a little surprised they didn’t hype this at all beforehand, as it was effectively Dreamer’s retirement match in WWE. He was gone from the company a week later, but back once in 2012 and a handful of times in 2015 as part of an ECW legend team. But that’s it. This was an alright match. It seemed like they might go for something a bit out of the ordinary (for Dreamer), with Ryder working the arm for a bit. But then they forgot about that, gave Dreamer a fake win (Ryder’s foot was under the ropes) and then had Ryder counter a back superplex to a crossbody for the win at 7:50 (shown). Dreamer cut a farewell promo after the match, thanking his pseudo-hometown fans for the ride. He kisses his wife in the front row, then grabs his two kids and takes them up the ramp with him. That was cute. **½
