WWE ECW 173

September 29, 2009 – Boston, Massachusetts

Tiffany has been in a car accident. She’ll make a full recovery, but William Regal has been named interim GM, though without any power over the ECW Championship. The main event was going to be Christian vs. Zack Ryder in a non-title match, but he’s adding himself and his two cronies to Ryder’s side and making it a handicap match.

The Abraham Washington Show has Intercontinental Champion John Morrison as his guest, because ECW has absolutely no presence on the show. Absolutely none. The writing was on the wall, really. Morrison talks for a minute before Dolph Ziggler comes out, because that’s how this show works every week. Ziggler doesn’t get a word in, which is apparently a joke worthy of being on TV.

In the back, Regal is scolded by the Board of Directors on the phone and now the main event is an eight man tag.

Shelton Benjamin def. Paul Burchill
I guess Benjamin is a de facto babyface now, because Sheamus attacked him before the match and then he fought from behind against the heel Burchill. They kept giving Burchill matches over five minutes and he kept being unable to make them interesting. Benjamin stopped selling the pre-match attack a couple minutes into this, and while that’s logically annoying I was glad he took control of this thing. He won at 8:02 (shown) by hitting Paydirt. **¼

Christian, Goldust, Tommy Dreamer & Yoshi Tatsu def. Ezekiel Jackson, Vladimir Kozlov, William Regal & Zack Ryder
Tatsu did some fun stuff here. Everyone else punched and kicked each other, or hit big suplexes very slowly. Tatsu pinned Regal after the Saikyou High Kick at 11:25 (shown). Nothing more to say about it than that. **½
