Finlay comes out to lament that Hornswoggle had been drafted to Raw. Hornswoggle wants a match. Natalya & Tyson Kidd come out, and the product of that is…
Hornswoggle def. Natalya
Hornswoggle won with a roll up in 1:37. Whatever. ¼*
Natalya tries to mouth off to Tiffany in her office, so Tiffany tells her to shut up. She makes a match between Natalya & Kidd vs. Finlay & Hornswoggle on Superstars. I’ve just decided that the only Superstars matches I’ll be reviewing will be ones with way more ECW implications than this one.
Evan Bourne def. Paul Burchill
Looks like Burchill and Lea didn’t get split up after all. Why even have that segment where they were worried about it? So much of this match was a Burchill chinlock. And they gave it nearly ten minutes! I get what they were trying to do with Bourne, and I appreciate it, but against Burchill this kid should not have been going this long. Bourne got the win in 9:01 with the Shooting Star Press. Woof. **
Vladimir Kozlov def. Frankie Sloan
Kozlov won in 1:00 with a chokeslam. Okay. N/A
Tiffany brings out Christian and Jack Swagger for their contract signing. She does it like she’s a ring announcer, and given her image and vibe she definitely needed to not say things like “introducing first.” Maybe it’s my own bias I should be checking here ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Swagger is surprised when Christian signs without saying anything mean or snarky. He suggests Christian has nothing to say because he was gone for years and he knows that he can’t beat him after so many years away. Christian then says he could make fun of Swagger’s many deficiencies (lame clothes, hair, and lisp), but he’d rather just beat him at Backlash. Swagger powerbombs Christian through the table. This was fine, but after seeing the dope crime-boss version of this on NXT UK recently (December 2019) I just can’t get into run of the mill contract signings.
Okay, so Backlash then.

Christian def. Jack Swagger {ECW Championship Match}
Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole, and Jim Ross are on commentary here and the ring announcer doesn’t give this championship match intros. Kinda weird. Anyway, I could have done without the extended waistlock, but a good deal of the match was quite entertaining. Just short of the quality of their previous title match. Christian knocked Swagger into an exposed turnbuckle and hit the Killswitch for the win at 11:00. ***¼
