WWE ECW 144

March 10, 2009 – Jacksonville, Florida

Primo def. The Miz
Why is the tag team called the Colons but Primo is announced without his last name? Matt Striker calls out Todd Grisham for a mildly racist joke, and it makes me wonder why he takes the other side of racism for so much of his career. I guess in reality he’s more of a misogynist than a racist, but still. Anyway, this was a perfectly fine mid card match that for time to get the crowd invested. Carlito and John Morrison were fun as guest commentators too. Primo picked up the win with a hanging Backstabber at 8:21. ***

Tyson Kidd def. DJ Gabriel
This is the exact same feud that Gabriel & Alicia Fox had with Paul Burchill & Katie Lea. If there’s a mixed tag match next week it’s going to be absurd. Okay I just looked ahead and saw that instead they just killed the angle after this, at least on ECW. Gabriel got more offense in than Kidd’s past opponents, but Kidd still put him away very quickly with the springboard elbowdrop at 2:30. Gabriel bumped nicely here, which doesn’t seem to matter because I don’t think he was used much more after this.

Christian def. JTG, Shad Gaspard, Vladimir Kozlov, William Regal, The Great Khali, Goldust, Chaco Guerrero, R-Truth, Ricky Ortiz, Kung Fu Naki, Tommy Dreamer, Jimmy Wang Yang, Charlie Haas, Dolph Ziggler, and Paul Burchill {Battle Royal}
This was a Money in the Bank qualifying match. The eliminations happened super quickly in the first two minutes, leaving a final five of Regal, Dreamer, Christian, Truth, and Guerrero after a commercial break. Regal dumped Dreamer, Guerrero eliminated Truth (after a botch), and Christian got rid of Regal. Christian won after hitting Guerrero with his new flip kick in the ropes at 7:47 (shown). This was fine. **½
