Paul Heyman starts the show to wax poetic about being in Madison Square Garden. Sabu interrupts and gets a few shots at Heyman before he escapes. Sabu attacks Heyman’s security. Heyman lets everyone know that Big Show will face Sabu for the title in an extreme rules match, which makes about as much sense given the story so far as Heyman making last week’s handicap match a traditional rules match. If that sentence was confusing, let me clarify: Heyman’s choices on this show don’t make sense.
Rob Van Dam def. Hardcore Holly
Like their last match, this was going along fine but after a few minutes, Steven Richards, Mike Knox, and Test run out to attack RVD and draw the disqualification. Sandman & Tommy Dreamer make the save. **
CM Punk def. Shannon Moore
Punk won in under two minutes. Did we need weeks and weeks of weird backstage crap just to give Punk some lame fodder? I’m pretty shocked they didn’t just let Moore go after this. In the back, Kelly Kelly congratulates Punk on his win until Knox pulls her away. N/A
Rene Dupree def. Balls Mahoney
Kevin Thorn & Ariel at ringside for another Mahoney match here. Mahoney catches Thorn when he tries to interfere the first time, but then Thorn throws him to the stairs and Dupree gets the win. Snooze. ½*
Matt Striker says that while Sandman has the ECW Originals, he has allies as well. Uch, who cares.
Big Show def. Sabu {ECW Championship Extreme Rules Match}
Okay first the positive; Show’s expression after taking a low blow was one of the most genuine I’ve ever seen in a wrestling match. That’s about it for the positives. This was really boring, even by the standards set by these two. Their SummerSlam match utilized the stipulation better, and their second match was paced more quickly. The finish was good though. **
