October 28, 2008 – San Diego, California
ECW had been celebrating Halloween all month long, capping it off here with a Teddy Long impression of Ron Burgundy. Anchorman was four years old at this point, but the show was in San Diego and four years is about how long it takes WWE to get hip to anything popular.
Mark Henry, Bam Neely, & Chavo Guerrero def. Evan Bourne, Matt Hardy & Finlay
This was pretty good. The action never slowed down, there was a nice heat segment on Evan Bourne’s self-inflicted leg injury, and the finish was a surprise. Guerrero pinned Hardy after a wild series of events led to him hitting the Frog Splash at 7:08 (shown). Much is made about Guerrero having pinned the champion, which is a real bummer, but I don’t think much comes of it. ***
There’s a long John Cena documentary. It’s kind of cute and filled with a LOT of Boston accents, but the thing I most strongly take away from it is that Cena’s dad looks like Kevin Spacey.
Jack Swagger def. Tommy Dreamer
Dreamer was off his game here and Swagger seemed to miss a couple cues as well. The whole thing was amateur hour, and the crowd picked up on it. At five minutes this made me cringe multiple times. They should have cut the cord early. Swagger won in 5:42 with the gutwrench powerbomb. *
The show ends with a live edition of the Dirt Sheet. Miz & John Morrison are set to fight DX soon, so they spend the segment making fun of Triple H & Shawn Michaels. The Young Bucks come out dressed as DX, which is kind of blowing my mind. They were also in the thumbnail for the episode on WWE Network, so someone in WWE is a fan. Anyway, the Bucks get taken down and the segment just sort of peters out.
