WWE ECW 112

July 29, 2008 – Hershey, Pennsylvania

Todd Grisham replaces the new Raw GM Mike Adamle on commentary. They make fun of Adamle calling Tazz “the Tazz,” but I bet they wouldn’t do that if they knew Adamle would go public with a CTE diagnosis 11 years later. I say that because people who found out about that diagnosis in 2019 sure seem to feel like Adamle is off limits for teasing now.

Matt Hardy starts the show. He’s so stoked that his WWE run could culminate in an ECW Championship reign. Tony Atlas & Mark Henry come out to put Hardy in his place. Henry bends a metal bar, representing Hardy. Hardy reminds them that at SummerSlam they’re going to wrestle, not have a bar bending contest. This was pretty dumb.

Ricky Ortiz def. Chavo Guerrero
After a nothing match, the referee disqualifies Guerrero at 4:08 because he put his feet on the ropes during a pin and Bam Neely held onto them for extra leverage. Guerrero hit Ortiz with a Frog Splash after the match. Evan Bourne attacks Guerrero & Neely after the fact. *

Colin Delaney asks Henry & Atlas why they didn’t help him against Tommy Dreamer last week. They let him know that he needs to prove himself if he wants to role with them, and he disappointed by losing to Dreamer. He asks for another chance, so Atlas tells him to soften up Hardy in a match tonight.

John Morrison & The Miz def. Finlay & Hornswoggle
Tazz keeps calling the Finlay Roll the Celtic Cross and it’s driving me insane. These two teams have great chemistry. The story here was a bit different, as even though they had success doing tandem maneuvers in the beginning of the match, Finlay didn’t have enough faith in Hornswoggle to tag him into the match when he was in control. So Hornswoggle tagged himself in and immediately lost because the opening was gone. Morrison pinned the little guy in 8:46 with a facebuster. The right team went over at the end of this feud, but i’m shocked to say I’m sad it’s over. After the match, Mike Knox runs in and attacks Finlay. ***¼

Matt Hardy def. Colin Delaney
This was well-worked. Hardy only lost control when he focused too much attention on Henry standing on the ramp. This was otherwise a squash, with Hardy winning in 3:07 with the Twist of Fate. Henry throws Delaney out of the ring after the match. *½
