WWE ECW 111

July 22, 2008 – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Teddy Long starts the show by presenting a new ECW Championship belt to Mark Henry. It’s silver and shiny. Tony Atlas talks up Henry and his new swag. He also brings out evil Colin Delaney.  Delaney turned because he was tired of being a jobber, and preferred to align with a legend and a champion rather than a washed up loser. He offers to carry Atlas & Henry’s bags, which they’re pretty stoked about. Long isn’t as stoked, and he books Delaney against Dreamer right now.

Tommy Dreamer def. Colin Delaney
Remember when Dreamer was betrayed by Delaney, and they had the opportunity to turn that into a cute program where Delaney avoids Dreamer for a while until Dreamer gets his hands on him? Oh, that never happened? Dreamer just beat Delaney two days later in under three minutes? Got it, got it. Dreamer hit the DDT at 2:57. ¾*

The Miz and John Morrison which each other luck in tonight’s main event. Then, Jenny McCarthy asks us to join her in her fight against vaccinations… I mean autism at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Okay, murderer. Her presence there was so toxic that they never ran SNME again after that. It was probably for other reasons but I just hate her.

Evan Bourne def. James Curtis
It’s fun when a smaller guy squashes someone larger than him. Well, it should be fun; this was not. Bourne won in a boring 4:35 with the Shooting Star Press. Chavo Guerrero & Bam Neely try to attack Bourne after the match but Bourne is too fast for them. N/A

Finlay calls Matt Hardy a warrior, but he doesn’t need luck in the main event against any of the opponents he’s up against in the main event because he’s got a shillelagh. Then, Ricky Ortiz flirts with Tiffany by talking about his football career. Then he pitches marketing ideas to Long. Long won’t execute those ideas but he will book Ortiz in a match next week. Then they spotlight mike Knox. Also, Hardy wants a win tonight because he lost his title two nights ago.

Matt Hardy def. The Miz, John Morrison, and Finlay {Number One Contender Fatal Four Way Match}
I had heard that this match was good, but when it started I didn’t think it could live up to the hype. It started out as this wild tornado brawl, where the referee couldn’t keep up with the dual battles going on in the ring. Then we got the requisite Miz & Morrison control with teamwork segment, which was also fun. When that broke down this turned into an insane, fast-paced, hard-hitting battle wherein Finlay basically turned into a human fireball. All the chaos ended with Hardy hitting Morrison with the Twist of Fate for the win at 12:57. Best match on this show in two years, and one that’s actually not hyped up enough. ****
