WWE ECW 110

July 15, 2008 – Charlotte, North Carolina

Mark Henry comes to the ring with his new manager Tony Atlas. Atlas explains that he turned Colin Delaney & Tommy Dreamer not because of some ruse he had going on with Henry, but because he genuinely feels good about carrying the bags of someone as glorious as Henry. Welp, that’s one way to go. Henry then bends a frying pan. It’s not unimpressive, though they’d brought in a fan to show that the pan was real and the fan bent it a tiny bit. Also it’s not like it was cast iron. Dreamer comes out and asks if he can try to bend a pan, and then he clocks Henry with it. That’s a good pro wrestling segment, I don’t care who’s involved. Later, Teddy Long kicks Dreamer out of the arena for the assault.

Mike Knox def. Shannon Moore
This was a squishy squish squash. Knox won at 2:47 with the Roll of the Dice. N/A

Evan Bourne def. Chavo Guerrero
If I never hear another Bourne defying gravity promo it’ll be too soon. As for the match, never underestimate Guerrero’s ability to make a match feel inconsequential. Bourne won in 3:03 with the Shooting Star press. **

With Dreamer out of the picture, Henry & Atlas approach Delaney. They tell him they have nothing to worry about, but then Henry bear hugs him to death. Tiffany saw the whole thing and runs for help. A bit later they announce that Henry will defend his title against Dreamer at the PPV on Sunday. Not sure what Dreamer did to deserve that. Would it have been so hard for Henry to demand the match from Long after the pan attack? Or show Long punish Henry for the Delaney attack with the PPV match?

Matt Hardy & Jeff Hardy def. John Morrison & The Miz
The crowd was super hot for their Hardy kin. This was a perfectly enjoyable tag team match, energized by the fans, but I’m not sure what the point of it was. The Hardyz won in 12:25 after Jeff hit the Swanton Bomb on Morrison. Despite the loss in this non-title match, the champs don’t defend against the Hardyz at the PPV, and instead fight Hornswoggle & Finlay and a couple of jobber teams. I get that this was a hometown crowd play, but what the hell? WWE hates putting people over in their hometown so why do it now when it doesn’t make sense? ***¼

Okay, so the Great American Bash match, let’s take a look at that.

July 20, 2008 – Uniondale, New York

Mark Henry def. Tommy Dreamer {ECW Championship Match}
This match was as boring as you’d expect, but at least had the novelty of Delaney turning on Dreamer at the end, leading to Henry hitting the World’s Strongest Slam at 5:32 for the win. The crowd reacted to the turn more than just about anything in the match (except for a boring chant early on), so points for that. *¾
