August 22, 2006 – Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
The show starts with an extreme bikini contest. Torrie Wilson and Kelly Kelly square off. I think about why people would get excited about this when porn was readily available everywhere for free in 2006. Mike Knox & Test run out to stop Kelly from competing. Sandman & Tommy Dreamer run out to challenge them to an intergender tag match. I don’t know why Wilson would agree to this, but she attacks Kelly to get things started.
Torrie Wilson, Sandman & Tommy Dreamer def. Kelly Kelly, Mike Knox & Test
After starting the match with a couple shoves, the ladies never tagged into the match. That said after watching two straight Sabu matches on last week’s episode and SummerSlam, I was happy to watch some simple, boring wrestling from four guys who don’t botch every other move. *¾
Big Show is going to fight Sabu in a title rematch tonight, which doesn’t really make sense since he lost really decisively at SummerSlam. Paul Heyman is worried, but Show isn’t sweating it. I mean, he is sweating… a lot, which is weird because he’s just standing around backstage. But he isn’t worried.
Matt Striker is a teacher who thinks he’s smarter than the crowd. He’s already the worst and he hasn’t even been in the ring yet. I’m going out on a limb and saying that he’s the worst thing to happen to WWE TV maybe ever. Top 10 at least. Other things were probably worse, but Striker was around for years.
Kevin Thorn def. Balls Mahoney
I didn’t notice them announcing this as an extreme rules match, but Thorn uses his cane in front of the referee a lot. To be fair, I don’t pay a lot of attention to anything I’m watching here. This was short, at least. *
CM Punk def. Christopher W Anderson
In the biggest cop out move of all time, CW has to go by Christopher here. I guess we’ll always have their properly-billed ROH match. This was totally fine, though it didn’t do anything to keep the crowd’s interest. Kinda like their ROH match. **
Heyman welcomes Hardcore Holly to ECW. He insinuates that Holly should go one of the ECW originals because they’re his enemies.
Rob Van Dam def. Danny Doering
Doering doesn’t get an entrance and this is just a squash to get to the post-match angle. Holly runs out and attacks both guys after the match. N/A
Big Show def. Sabu {ECW Championship Match}
Show is now aligned with the McMahons in their feud against D-Generation X, I guess. This match is not under extreme rules, and it ends by disqualification when Sabu hits Show with the ring bell in front of the referee. This was a waste of a TV main event, and I guess they’ll end up doing it over again one more time. It’s actually too bad, because Sabu hit all his spots for once in this match and it might have turned into something solid. **¼
