WWE ECW 108

July 1, 2008 – Tulsa, Oklahoma

New champion Mark Henry starts the show. Tommy Dreamer, alongside Colin Delaney comes out to challenge him. Delaney came back to WWE to do jobs a decade later and literally nobody noticed. Isn’t that sad? Dreamer challenges Henry, who says that Dreamer too is a decade too late to be relevant. Henry offers Dreamer a shot if Delaney can beat the champion.

Matt Hardy, Finlay & Hornswoggle def. John Morrison, the Miz & Chavo Guerrero
Much like at the PPV, this was a really good use of Hornswoggle and a fun, manic match. Finlay pinned Guerrero at 8:27 (shown) with the Celtic Cross after Hornswoggle had hit the Tadpole Splash. Apparently, Guerrero had said earlier that if Hornswoggle touched him there’d be hell to pay, so we’ll see if that led to anything. ***

Atlas Ortiz def. Armando Estrada
Ortiz was part of a new superstar initiative, and Estrada was still fighting to get an ECW contract. Despite Ortiz winning, this was much less enjoyable than the Estrada squashes, which I could have stood to see more of I’m realizing now. Ortiz won at 6:07 with a backslide after a remarkably boring match. These guys barely have to goods to pull off a match half this length, which to me means they shouldn’t have been on TV at all. *

Mark Henry def. Colin Delaney
I’m not sure what the point was in only giving Delaney the most impotent hope spot so early on in this short match, and not having it lead to a pin attempt. This was basically a squash. Henry won in 2:30 with the World’s Strongest Slam. *
