Teddy Long boots Armando Estrada out of his office and assumes the role of General Manager. No explanation is given.
CM Punk def. John Morrison, Tommy Dreamer, and Chavo Guerrero {Fatal Four Way Match}
The winner of this match got the honor of facing Kane in a non-title match. That makes sense in that Big Show is already the number one contender, but that doesn’t make it an interesting stipulation. This had a nice, manic pace. I guess giving them only five minutes was the way to go, as they packed a ton of action into the time they were given. Punk won in 5:07 with the GTS on Guerrero. ***
Teddy Long explains that it’s become financially irresponsible to keep Estrada on as ECW GM when he’s also an active wrestler while Vince McMahon’s Million Dollar Mania is going on. He books Estrada against Matt Hardy. This is another angle that actually makes sense and could be a cute way to get people over on the despicable Estrada, but it was executed in the most boring way possible.
Shelton Benjamin def. Matt Sydal
I didn’t realize that Sydal ever wrestled under this name in WWE. This match featured what I think was the first ever Meteora in WWE, so that’s neat. It’s not long before Kofi Kingston’s presence at ringside comes into play, and Benjamin powerbombs Sydal into him. That was also neat. Then Benjamin wins by countout at 3:38. Kingston attacks Benjamin after the match but Benjamin comes out on top. I wasn’t mad at any of this. **¼
Matt Hardy def. Armando Estrada
Hardy squished Estrada in 1:04 with the Twist of Fate. N/A
Colin Delaney def. Armando Estrada
Teddy Long announced this match while Estrada was still on the mat. After a brief setback, Delaney got to embarrass Estrada as well and won with a roll up in 26 seconds. That was cute. Later, Estrada begs Long to keep him around until the draft so that he might end up on Raw or Smackdown rather than get fired. Long says he’s going to keep him around just he can treat him the way that Delaney was treated for months. N/A
Kane def. CM Punk
This got off to a really nice start, but then after the commercial break Kane controlled for way too long with a boring body scissors hold. They pulled things back together after that though, and the finish was about as hot as any Kane match’s finish in years. The crows was so into Kane it was kind of insane. Kane won in 10:49 (shown) with the chokeslam. After the match, Morrison & Miz attacked Kane. It didn’t get over particularly well. Still, points for effort on Kane’s side. ***
