May 20, 2008 – Des Moines, Iowa
Armando Estrada started the show with CM Punk, Tommy Dreamer, John Morrison, and Chavo Guerrero in the ring because they’d all been ECW champ before and they’re all going to be in a singapore cane contender match at One Night Stand. The PPVs were only two weeks apart at this point. Also, there’s no ECW title match on a show that used to be the ECW brand PPV. Nobody brought this up. A tag match was booked for the main event too.
The Miz def. Kane
Miz won by disqualification when Kane wouldn’t let him leave the corner. The match was fine up until that point. Oy who cares. *¾
Shelton Benjamin def. Kofi Kingston
I wasn’t expecting a lot here as their two previous matches weren’t anything to write home about, but this had a more interesting through line, with Benjamin executing a smart plan, taking out Kingston’s leg to slow him down, and then learning from his mistake the last time around to avoid the surprise finisher and get the win. The crowd wasn’t into this, but I was. ***
Colin Delaney & Kelly Kelly def. Mike Knox & Layla
Kelly pinned Layla after one minute with the Famouser. I blinked through Knox being in this one at all, but then he attacked Delaney after the match. Then Armando Estrada came out and demanded that the referee start a new match. N/A
Armando Estrada def. Colin Delaney
Estrada pinned Delaney after hitting an inverted DDT. I’m going to have to find a Delaney shoot interview to learn what this whole weird run was about. N/A
John Morrison & Chavo Guerrero def. CM Punk & Tommy Dreamer
There was a wild Electric Chair Drop that Morrison hit Punk with on the floor during this match. That’s about all I can remember about this thing and I just finished watching it. Punk was on defense the whole match, which had me stumped since they had Dreamer right there. The only bright side is that Punk got an actual comeback before making the hot tag. The finish was cool in theory (Morrison avoids the Tree of Woe dropkick and Guerrero immediately hits the Frog Splash), but Morrison didn’t pull himself up fast enough so the whole thing looked amess. After the match, Big Show comes out and beats up everyone. **¼
