Dario Cueto brings his brother Matanza some food in his cage. Dario says that the hunger inside Matanza for revenge against Rey Mysterio is making him weak, and it made him turn on Dario. If Matanza can’t control his hunger, it will destroy them both. Batanza reaches for the food, but then pulls his hand back.
Fenix def. Pindar {Quarterfinal Match}
Vampiro flirts with Matt Striker on comedy in a funny and refreshingly progressive moment. Fenix did a good job bouncing off his opponent here, but Pindar just isn’t that good. He’s got the same faceless brute gimmick as Matanza but without the imposing charisma. Fenix won with a double diving kneedrop that I can’t believe Pindar agreed to at 5:19. **⅓
The Worldwide Underground is in Cueto’s office, making fun of Jack Evans’ jaw being wired shut. They’re all banned for ringside in the main event. In exchange, PJ Black, Taya, and Ricky Mandel will get shots at Ancient Medallions next week. But if they show up tonight, those opportunities are gone. I’m always confused when Cueto does babyface shit.
Prince Puma def. Dante Fox {Quarterfinal Match}
This was just a touch too one-sided to be a classic, but it was a damn fun way to show how dominant Puma has become now that he’s under Vampiro Chrome’s tutelage. Fox more than held his own, nailing Puma with creative offense a few times before ultimately having all of his attacks blocked and shot down. Puma won in 11:04 with the 630 Senton. After the match, Killshot takes out Fox and says that he agrees that they have unfinished business. ***½
Captain Vasquez hints at Ricky Reyes that Cage is now a god, but Reyes’s mind isn’t open to it. She also tells him that Cage murdered Councilman Delgado. She wants Reyes to get the gauntlet from Cage, but Reyes doesn’t think it’s possible. He walks out and Vasquez stares at her amulet.
Johnny Mundo def. El Dragon Azteca
Ron Funches and Giant Dominic Mysterio get called out by the production in the crowd. This was quite similar to the last match in that Mundo outclassed his upper-midcard opponent here with dope counters to just about everything, and then finished him off with the End of the World at 8:56. I really loved when Mundo went for a kick, and then when it was blocked immediately used the momentum to poke Azteca’s eye. After the match, Mundo threatens to crush Azteca’s throat but Mysterio makes the save. After Mysterio and Azteca leave, Mundo comes back and gets into it with Dominic. Mysterio tries to run out but he gets wiped out by the Worldwide Underground. Dominic takes a belt shot to the face. ***¼
Outside, Fenix offers to walk Melissa Santos to her car. Marty Martinez watches from the shadows and rambles about taking Fenix’s mask to show Santos how ugly he is.
