Lucha Underground: The Art of War

March 25, 2015 – Los Angeles, California

We’re in the middle of a series of episodes that are tying up loose ends in ongoing feuds.

Son of Havoc def. Angelico
This was another weird one in this feud. The match was decent enough, but the finish saw Ivelisse call Havoc to the apron for no reason, Havoc having enough and shoving her away (and out of harm’s way), and then moments later got on the microphone to tell Ivelisse she’s holding him back and dumped. Then he hit a Shooting Star Press for the win at 6:40. She’s been demeaning in recent weeks, and Havoc had been getting cheers, so I suppose it works. Better than the garbage they gave us two weeks ago, anyway. **¾

Dario Cueto officially signs Hernandez to a contract in his office. He says Hernandez won’t be stuck in a pointless tag team in Lucha Underground. Shots fired on Homicide and TNA. He’s being given a front row seat to tonight’s main event.

Alberto El Patron def. Texano {AAA Mega Championship Bull Rope Match}
This was a solid little hardcore match. A chair and a table were both used well. The rope never came into play in an interesting way, but I did like the way the Patron had trouble locking in his armbar, but then did it successfully in the ropes because there were no disqualifications. That happened at 8:22 and gave Patron the win. ***¼

Hernandez interrupts Konnan’s training session with Prince Puma. He shows Puma some love. Konnan was training Puma to box, despite that style never coming into play in either of Puma’s matches against Cage.

Prince Puma def. Cage {Lucha Underground Championship Boyle Heights Street Fight}
Dario Cueto brings out a flashy new championship belt before the match. It’s a huge improvement over the original title. After the Grave Consequences match, it’s hard to get crazy jazzed up for a bloodless hardcore match. They put in a good effort here, and it as more chaotic and compelling than the bull rope match, but Puma was pulling his shots which made it feel like he just didn’t want to be the champ that badly. Cage tried to win the match in the same way that he beat Puma previously, which I liked, and was vicious, which I liked. Hernandez got involved, distracting Cage so that Konnan could hit him with the steel cane. At least those video packages got a pay off. But again, Puma looks weak and couldn’t get it done on his own. With Cage down, Puma hit the 630 senton for the win at 12:13. ***½
