Lucha Underground: Ready for War

November 9, 2016 – Los Angeles, California

Catrina tells Mil Muertes that she wants him to kill Prince Puma, not just beat him. If he loses again, she won’t bring him back this time.

Mascarita Sagrada def. Famous B {Believer’s Backlash Match}
Well, there are no lumberjacks, but the fans did bring weapons to hand to Sagrada. That makes for a reasonably fun comedy match. Weapons include football pads and a helmet, Rick Martel’s Arrogance, a giant bag of popcorn, and a magic wand complete with post-production sound effects. A bowling ball to the nuts also got sound effects. Dr. Wagner Jr. and Son of Havoc both got involved. My favorite spot was B stopping Wagner from hitting Sagrada with a painting because it was a painting of B. Sagrada tried to choke B with his own tie, but Beautiful Brenda cut the tie with a giant pair of scissors (I assume to make sure Sagara didn’t get suspended for offending the sponsors). Brenda took a pit to the face and then Sagrada got the win with an oversized shoe to the head and a swinging DDT at 8:18.  After the match, Sagrada gets into Havoc’s motorcycle club with his own cut. Good, kooky fun all around. ***

Killshot approaches Dante in the locker room and says he’s happy to have him back. Dante shakes his hand and says tonight they’ll stay united. I don’t buy it. Drago is goofing off in the bathroom again. Kobra Moon again comes in, but this time she fights him. Drago says he was a slave in her tribe. Apparently, Daga was torn apart by her lord Pindar. He’s coming for Drago. Vinny Massaro pops up again, but this time he farts off on his own. Why is he a part of this angle? Also, I thought Daga came back, so I’m a bit confused at Moon’s claim here.

Ivelisse, Jeremiah Crane, Marty Martinez, the Mack & Mariposa def. Argenis, Cage, Dante Fox, Killshot & Texano
Ivelisse’s team all earned spots in Aztec Warfare with their win here. Nice of them to finally give Jeremiah and Dante last names. Cage and Texano couldn’t get along from the beginning, so their team fell apart. Weirdly, the Mack and the Martinez siblings got along just fine. Ivelisse gets injured, but Fox turns on Killshot so Martinez is able to pin him at 5:16 anyway. This was very short and chaotic, but it definitely wasn’t boring. Crane carries Ivelisse to the back. **¾

Dario Cueto motivates Matanza for his gauntlet match in Aztec Warfare next week. Matanza speaks for the first time, just saying “war.”

Mil Muertes def. Prince Puma {Grave Consequences Match}
This one had much stranger pacing than the previous GC matches. There was some fun violence, but a lot of time setting up spots. It was better than the Matanza match because it wasn’t between two guys who no-sell everything, but it didn’t touch the Fenix match. Muertes picked up the win after a chokeslam through tables and a Flatiner on the floor. After going into the coffin at 16:28, Puma was carried out, just as Muertes had been the two time he lost this match. ***½
