February 11, 2015 – Los Angeles, California
Alberto El Patron is back in Dario Cueto’s office. He wants to know what Cueto’s key unlocks. Cueto dodges the question. Patron wants something, but we don’t get to find out what it is yet. The commentators let us know he’ll get an open mic later on. Tubi renamed this episode “A Shot of El Patron” which is definitely cooler than the original title, but the original title warned us of the first main event interview in Lucha Underground.
Fenix def. Argenis
Catrina came down during the match to watch, and then after Fenix won at 5:35 with a Fire Driver, she gave Argenis the lick of death. Fenix wants nothing to do with it. The match was solid fun, but again these singles lucha style matches don’t have enough time to develop in five minutes. **¾
In the back, Mil Muertes lifts Catrina by her neck and screams at her that he needs nothing, I guess anticipating that she’d suggest he ally with Fenix. Then he runs into Chavo Guerrero in the hallway, beats him up, and tells him that he’ll pay his debt this week. I can’t remember, was he mad that Guerrero attacked Blue Demon?
Big Ryck and his new eyepatch go to confession. Ryck tells his priest that he’s going to destroy the Crew. He won’t hurt innocent people anymore, but the Crew isn’t innocent. The priest gives him a blessing.
Johnny Mundo def. Son of Havoc
This was kind of a step down for both guys. It picked up near the end but it was a case of too little too late for me. The commentators kept harping on Mundo’s injured knee, but Mundo wasn’t selling it so it just got annoying. The finish sees Havoc take forever up top while he chats with Ivelisse, allowing Mindo to come back and hit the End of the World at 8:46. After the match, King Cuerno runs out and attacks Mundo again. **½
Pentagon def. Ricky Mandel
Just another Pentagon squash. He won with the armbar at 3:42 and then broke Mandel’s arm after the fact. If they’re going to keep claiming that these jobbers have broken arms, they’d better not bring them back for a while. Pentagon talks about his master again after the match. N/A
Patron, who is the AAA Mega Champion, comes to the ring for his promo. He talks about his family history. He talks in veiled terms about his time in WWE and suggests that it’s a racist company. He’s super stoked to be in Lucha Underground. Then Texano runs out and whips Patron with a bull rope.
