July 5, 2017 – Los Angeles, California
Dante Fox is out for a run when he has a PTSD flashback to Afghanistan. In a really fantastic touch, they use footage from Killshot’s debut vignettes to show that Fox was inside a house getting tortured while Killshot was outside shooting people. Fox was saved from being beheaded by random American soldiers after Killshot left him. Killshot stalks Fox on his run from the rooftops. How very dramatic.
PJ Black def. Sexy Star {First Round Match}
This was pretty decent, but it all led to Taya costing Star another match by distracting her and tossing Black brass knuckles. Star got her hands on the knucks but the referee catches her using them and Black wins by disqualification at 4:16. Matt Striker says that Dario Cueto has told the officials to really enforce the rules in this tournament, but on the last episode he said the opposite during the Killshot vs. Jeremiah Crane match, so it’s just inconsistent. Star knocks out the referee after the match. *¾
Rey Mysterio talks about what winning the title would mean to hi and what kind of training he’s doing to beat Johnny Mundo. He wants to bring back the glory that Prince Puma once gave the championship. Johnny Mundo just says he’s the best because he’s the champion. Someone should edit all these hype videos into one straight movie, followed by the match.
Son of Havoc def. Son of Madness {First Round Match}
Vampiro assumes that Madness was sent by Havoc’s MC to discipline Havoc for something. If you’ve ever wondered what it would look like to see Matt Cross fight a slightly less fit, paler, not as agile version of himself, this is the match for you. That thought had never crossed my mind, so this dragged for me. Havoc got the win with a roll up at 8:45. Madness attacked him after the match and steals his cut. **¼
Prince Puma def. Ricky Mandel {First Round Match}
Mandel is an intern in the Worldwide Underground, and he’d have been promoted to assistant if he won here, But he didn’t win; he got squashed. Puma won in 1:14 with the Vertigo Driver. N/A
Mysterio gives El Dragon Azteca some support for his tournament match tonight. Azteca says he’s excited to face Mysterio for the title after they both win. Puma comes in and tells Mysterio that he wants Mysterio to beat Mundo as well, and then he wants a rematch with Mysterio that he’ll win. Mysterio tells Azteca that they’ll take everything one match at a time.
Dante Fox def. El Dragon Azteca {First Round Match}
After a solid match, the Worldwide Underground (including the injured Jack Evans) comes out and attacks Mysterio, who was ringside with Azteca. Azteca tried to save his man, but that was enough of a distraction for Fox to catch him with the Foxcatcher for the win at 9:05. This tournament just isn’t grooving in a fun way. **¾
