Cortez Castro & Mr. Cisco def. Mascarita Sagrada & Pimpinela Escarlata
Vampiro kind of puts Matt Striker on the spot and asks him to prove to the viewers that he doesn’t discriminate against people like Pimpinela, which is kind of cute. The match had way less comedy than I was expecting, and was mostly Big Ryck’s Crew punching and kicking Escarlata. Things picked up a bit when Sagrada came into the ring. I like that his opponents give him some credible offense. The Crew won in 4:49 with the Shatter Machine on Pimpinela. After the match Ryck starts cutting a promo and the Crew turns on him. They put his own cigar out in his eye, and nobody makes the save because he’s been such a jerk. **
In Dario Cueto’s office, Cueto pays the Crew for putting Ryck down. It seems that Cueto is trying to humiliate anyone who starts to get power in Lucha Underground. Later, Vampiro does a sit-down interview with Cage. Cage doesn’t care that he has heat in the lockerroom, he’s not waiting to get his hands on the title and he’s doing what he can to cut in line. Cage said he’s called Cage because he’s a machine… That is a dumb thing to say.
Pentagon def. Super Fly
This was like one of the mediocre singles matches from earlier episodes of this show. It wasn’t bad at all, and it had some of that drama that was lacking from Fenix vs. Prince Puma from the last episode, but it didn’t have that wow factor and I never bought that Fly could win. Pentagon hit a package piledriver for the win at 5:33. After the match, Pentagon calls Chavo Guerrero a fraud for saying he’d be his ally and then betraying him in Aztec Warfare. He wants someone to join forces with him. **½
Sexy Star def. El Mariachi Loco
I still think it’s lame that Blue Demon getting his final revenge on Guerrero means that by default Star got hers as well. At least she’s getting wins. This was another good but not very good match, mostly because it didn’t have time to turn into anything special. I did like that while Star roll through Loco, she did look strong when it made sense. She won with a small package at 3:51. **¼
Drago def. King Cuerno {Last Luchador Standing Match}
I liked this as a change of pace, as the stipulation dictating that this match be slower than the typical, highly produced matches that make up the rest of this show. After a somewhat tame match (though it did feature Cuerno hitting his finisher through a table on the floor), Cuerno tied Drago to the turnbuckle to keep him off his feet for the ten count at 11:24. Like I said, points for something different, but I hope down the line the gnarly stipulations bring us more violence. ***
