Sexy Star tells Dario Cueto that she’s cashing in her title shot next week. He reminds her that he has to get through Johnny Mundo tonight, and if her Trios Championship friends interfere, they’re banned forever from the Temple.
Marty Martinez def. Ivelisse
Martinez really dominated here, with a little help from Mariposa. I’m not sure what the point of putting Martinez over so big since he seemed to be on the way down while we know Ivelisse already has a match scheduled for Ultima Lucha. Martinez won in 4:18 with a full nelson slam. Her boyfriend runs in and attacks the Martinez siblings. They devalued Ivelisse so that Sami fucking Callihan could debut? Lame. Ivelisse helps him get the better of the creepy brother and sister. Ivelisse is mad that he came out to help her. *¾
Now we see a dude with the White Rabbit logo on his coat. Apparently he’s part of a White Rabbit Tribe. He’s not lost, he’s found. Then, Ivelisse yells at her boyfriend more in the parking lot. He’s gotten an offer to compete from Cueto. He wants to team up with her. She’s not into it and warns her man not to trust Cueto before driving off. On the other side of the parking lot, Cueto gets in a limo. Councilman Delgado is inside and says that his boss’s descension is complete. They need a new host body for him, and Cueto hints that he’s thinking of Cage or Texano for the job. The boss, who is apparently a god, is ethereally in a box that Delgado gives to Cueto. I LOVE THIS KOOKY SHIT!
Texano def. Cage
Texano gets on the board and goes 1-2 against Cage here. They picked things up a notch for this one, which was much appreciated as I didn’t need a third version of the exact same match. Texano’s comebacks had more behind them, and the fact that it led to him winning worked well. Texano picked up the win with a roll up at 7:35. ***¼
Cueto gazes into the box until he’s interrupted by Rey Mysterio. Mysterio tells Cueto that he wants a Loser Leaves Lucha match against Chavo Guerrero. Cueto loves it. Mysterio is going to put Guerrero down for his own good.
Johnny Mundo def. Sexy Star {Gift of the Gods Championship Match}
I’m not sure what happened to Star, but she seems to have taken a massive step back skill-wise. She took a few moves very awkwardly and her comebacks weren’t so compelling. The match also had ridiculous ref bumps and interference from the Worldwide Underground, presumably to protect Star and give her a way to say she had Mundo beat. But a second referee saw the whole thing go down and not only didn’t disqualify Mundo, but counted a close 2 for him. The Worldwide Underground attacked that referee, and I’d like to think it’s because he was so bad at his job. The Mack tried to make the save in the only moment I really liked in this match. I just really like that the super babyface Star has so many allies that even when many are banned from ringside, there are others to help her. But then Mundo hit Star with brass knuckles to win the title anyway at 11:29. I did not like how all this went down. **
Prince Puma is training when he’s once again approached by Vampiro. Vampiro says that beating Mil Muertes was a good first step, but there’s more he needs to do to get revenge for Konnan. Puma brings up that Vampiro hated Konnan, but Vampiro says that Konnan was Puma’s mentor nonetheless, and he needs to do to Muertes what Muertes did to Konnan. Looks like Grave Consequences will be returning.
