November 23, 2016 – Los Angeles, California
Paul London wiggles while he talks about the white rabbit. He is being led by El Bunny, and he and his friends will follow him into war. They’re here.
Aerostar, Fenix & Drago def. Paul London, Mala Suerte & Saltador {Lucha Underground Trios Championship Match}
Weird for the Rabbit Tribe to lose in their debut after weeks and weeks of hype. It is heavily suggested that the Rabbit Tribe are all wrestling while tripping. In a fun moment, London & Saltador knock the champs off the apron, take their place, and then trick Fenix into trying to make the hot tag to them. Kobra Moon looks on during the match. Fenix pinned Saltador with a roll up at 6:44. This was alright, though again the Rabbit Tribe being an afterthought was so weird. After the match, Moon threatens Drago again. **½
The Mack comes to the locker room to congratulate Sexy Star on becoming champion. He wants to support her in her title match tonight so that Johnny Mundo won’t steal the title the way he did the Gift of the Gods Championship. Star refuses, saying she wants to do it alone to prove she’s not a fluke champion. Famous last words.
Dante Fox def. Killshot
This was a dope mirror image match. They wrestled basically the exact same style, and were predicting each other’s moves even though this was their first match because the story said they knew each other so well prior to Lucha Underground. They packed a metric tonne of action in this match, which totally caught me off guard. This was probably the best match under ten minutes in Lucha Underground. Fox won with a Spanish Fly and the Foxcatcher at 8:07. ****
Mundo barges into Dario Cueto’s office to remind him that he’s put a restraining order on Angelico, who can’t interfere in his match legally. Cueto lets him know that it won’t stop Angelico from coming after him down the line. Then they do a weird vaudeville sketch talking under their breath. It didn’t play. Cueto then goes to the bathroom to snort some coke, and when he comes back Black Lotus is in his chair. She wants the Black Lotus Triad to fight Pentagon Dark. Cueto books Dark against the Triad in a gauntlet match, though Dark will have to face all three Lotuses whether he wins or loses his matches.
Johnny Mundo def. Sexy Star {Lucha Underground Championship Match}
I can’t help but feel like they could have drawn out this program so that Star could have had more than one week as champion. This was better than their Gift of the Gods title match, but the bar was set pretty low there. Rather than the copious interference lik they had in the first match, this just had Taya dressed up like Star (pretending to be an injured fan) laying out Star with brass knuckles. That led to Mundo winning the title with the End of the World (which missed by a mile) at 11:08. The finish sucked, and was a lame way to move the title. Shame, the match up to that point was pretty solid. Initially it seemed really cool that they put the title on Star, but to have her just be a transitional champion and lead to a feud with Taya is rather weak. **¾
