Lucha Underground: Cien

September 13, 2017 – Los Angeles, California

Ricky Mandel reveals a new ID card for his new legal name change. He’s Ricky Mundo now. Johnny Mundo hates it, but he doesn’t have time to worry about it. They roll out to fight Prince Puma and his crew. Before the match, Mundo sidelines New Mundo because he’s mad about the name. He introduces his new partner as an antidote to Puma’s partner Fenix.

Johnny Mundo, Taya, PJ Black & Marty Martinez def. Prince Puma, Cage, Fenix & Sexy Star
Martinez wears a bandana over his eyes in a weird show of solidarity with the Worldwide Underground. Cage spent the match staring at the gauntlet on his arm. It proves to be a distraction when Jeremiah Crane runs out and steals it. With Black’s help, Mundo hits Puma with the End of the World at 5:37 for the win. The match was short, and really just a backdrop to the shoehorned involvement of Crane in the gauntlet storyline. I also think it’s odd that Puma took the pin, but I’m sure Mundo will taunt him with that until their match. Martinez goes after Melissa Santos after the match, but she slaps the crap out of him and then Fenix kicks his head off. Later, a tag match between Santos & Fenix and the Martinez siblings is made for next week. **¼

Crane tries to give the gauntlet to Catrina in exchange for a kiss. Mil Muertes attacks Crane, knocking the gauntlet to the floor. Catrina gets it, but Cage attacks her. She tries to teleport but can’t and Cage tells her that the gauntlet is too powerful for teleportation. She drops the gauntlet and bails, but Cage gets caught in a fight with Muertes and Crane before he can get the gauntlet out of there. Dario Cueto rolls up, grabs the gauntlet and runs.

Pentagon Dark def. El Dragon Azteca {Ancient Medallion Match}
Azteca is basically a jobber at this point. After this match he was 1-5-1 in singles matches in Lucha Underground. The match was basically all Azteca, but then Dark kicked him off the top rope and hit the Package Piledriver for the win at 6:34. That’s basically the story of every Azteca match. Pentagon goes to break his arm after the match but Matanza Cueto of all people makes the save. Dario wants Matanza to stop, so Dark gets to walk out of the ring. Matanza then tosses Azteca around the ring until Mysterio comes out for the main event. **¾

Matanza Cueto def. Rey Mysterio
This was a decent enough big man-little man match. The referee inexplicably let them both use a chair, but that’s a minor quibble I guess. Cueto hit the Wrath of the Gods for the win at 10:47, with the help of his brother knocking Mysterio’s foot off the ropes during the count. Matanza hits his finisher on Mysterio again after the match using a chair as well. He wraps the chair around Mysterio’s head and shoves him against the post a couple times too. ***¼
